Detector development

The Lund group is since a few years running an extensive development program of electronic readout systems for gaseous detectors. This work is done in very close contact with several Swedish high technology companies. The Lund group has made important contributions to the WA98 experiment at the CERN SPS, and the PHENIX collider experiment at RHIC at Brookhaven National Laboratory. Right now, the experience gathered from these activities is used in developing advanced readout electronics for the ALICE experiment at the LHC (Large Hadron Collider).

The picture above shows Dr. Anders Oskarsson working on the quarter-scale prototype pad chamber for the PHENIX experiment.

The figure above shows a complete chip module. 21 of these modules were used for read out on each "pad chamber" in the WA98 experiment.

This figure shows some of the chip modules mounted on the full scale chamber. The covered area corresponds to 25000 readout channels.
