Friendly game between Russian and Friench national teams ended the France's unbeaten strike. Without injured Zidane and Bartez, France didn't look confident enough to recover after 3d minute goal by Sergei Yuran. Russia had some more chances to score through Yuran and Kolyvanov, and all offencive attempts by French were cancelled by the bold Russian defence and goalie Filimonov.

After the game, Russian right wing Kanchelskis announced his retirement from the National squad. He claimed that he has no motivation to play for Russia in the EC-2000 qualifications, and wants to concentrate on his present club, Italian Fiorentina.

By Alastair Macdonald (Reuters)
...Boghossian's late strike, following goals in the opening half-hour by Nicolas Anelka and Robert Pires, proved decisive after Igor Yanovsky and Alexander Mostovoi had given the Russians hope from set pieces either side of halftime. Zinedine Zidane found Robert Pires wide on the left. Pires left Russian captain Viktor Onopko stranded to reach the touchline before centring for Boghossian to hammer home. A missed penalty, blasted against the bar by Laurent Blanc a minute from time after goalkeeper Sergei Ovchinnikov brought down Zidane, could not dampen French relief. "We picked ourselves up when the Russians came out looking for their third goal and we got the result we wanted," captain Didier Deschamps said of France's first victory in Moscow.
...For the Russians, struggling amid the country's deep economic crisis to rebuild after missing the World Cup finals, Boghossian's winner was a bitter blow that condemned them to a fourth successive defeat and leaves them with no points. After their 3-2 defeat in Ukraine last month, they are now bottom of the group below Armenia and Iceland. Ukrainian-born coach Anatoly Byshovets, for whom the game was his first home tie in charge, praised the spirit his side showed but blasted the technical slips that allowed the French to score and failed to capitalise on good approach work. "Their discipline broke down and they failed to get in shots on goal. They only started playing when they went 2-0 down," he said. "But luck was against us, too." Injuries had also blunted the attack.
If Russian honour was at least satisfied in front of 50,000 fans at the Luzhniki stadium, it had looked at one stage as though it going to be an embarrassing rout. Arsenal youngster Nicolas Anelka steadied French nerves with a simple strike in the 13th minute. The Russian markers gave Zidane the sort of space he can only dream of in serie A and Emmanuel Petit found the Juventus playmaker 30 metres out. He slipped the ball forward to the charging Anelka who slipped it cleanly past Ovchinnikov. In the 29th minute, France were 2-0 up after Anelka broke down the left to swing a long cross over that found Pires unmarked at the far post to blast home the second. But Paris St Germain defender Igor Yanovsky put Russia back in it on the stroke of halftime, heading home a flicked on corner from eight metres as the Russians were finally rewarded for 45 minutes of wasted effort in front of goal.
Twelve minutes into the second half, they finally looked liked averting disaster when Celta Vigo's Alexander Mostovoi, the vital figure in Russia's set-piece armoury, swung a beautifully swerving dead-ball past Lama from 25 metres. An open game of attack and counter finally turned in France's favour only when Boghossian grabbed the winner to give the French four points from two away games. "Once we were level again, it was a trial of strength. I'm pleased with our commitment," said French coach Roger Lemerre of his first victory in charge.
