Particle Physics Lund University FYS225/FKF050 course This is an introductory course to elementary particle physics, with a special emphasis on experimental methods and latest discoveries. The course will give basic knowledge of concepts of particle physics, and current experiments at world's highest energy accelerators and in space will be presented.

Course plan: Three 2-hour lectures a week. In each 2-hour lecture, one chapter of the book is covered. In addition, there will be two lectures on astroparticle physics. There will be a few weekly exercises which should be handed over, and which give part of the total points. Exercises will be explained in three problem-solution sessions. There will also be a few presentations about current research in high-energy physics (not included in the exam). LU students (FYS225) should in addition do invidual project work on a selected topic. The project will be presented orally (student seminar) (ca. 20 min each).
Points for the final grade in the 3p course FKF050 (LTH) Exam: 6 questions, giving 85% of the points Exercises: give 15% of the points. The hand-in exercises will be corrected and points are given according to the results. The astroparticle physics exercises are demonstrations, and points are given according to attendance.
Points for the final grade in the 5p course FYS225 (LU) Exam: 6 questions, giving 50% of the points Exercises: give 10% of the points. The hand-in exercises will be corrected and points are given according to the results. The astroparticle physics exercises are demonstrations, and points are given according to attendance. Project work: give 40% of the points. The contents of the work will be evaluated based on the oral presentation, evaluated at a scale 1-5, and weighted appropriately in the final grading.
