Board meeting

Connected: Richard Brenner, Ulf Danielson, Vincent Hedberg, Sten Hellman, Leif Lönnblad and Mark Pearce.

Apologies: Bo Sunborg.

§1

Formalities

The agenda was approved by all present.

Mark Pearce and Sten Hellman were appointed secretary and ‘justerare’ for the meeting, respectively.

The minutes of the last meeting were approved by all present.

§2

Fysikdagarna

Sten reported that he had sent text describing the section’s proposed activities to the organisers. The proposed activities are:

(1) An talk from CERN, focussing on their program for high school teachers — Richard to organise,
(2) A talk on modern theory (supersymmetry, strings, etc. ) from Ulf,
(3) A talk on astroparticle physics (dark matter, CMB, etc.) — Joakim Edsjö or Ariel Goobar or Lars Bergström will be asked and
(4) A talk on experimental particle physics — Barbro Åsman, Torbjorn Moa and Richard Brenner will be asked.

It was agreed that travel costs would be met by the section.

§3

The RECFA meeting in Sweden, 7th — 8th September 2001

Sten emphasised the need for the RECFA meeting to be well advertised and discussed within the research groups. A preliminary agenda is now available from http://vanh.physto.se/~sten/recfa/

§4

Board elections

Sten reported that Torbjörn Sjöstrand and Tord Ekelöf have agreed to form a committee to define a list of candidates for the forthcoming elections. Sten agreed to look into the practicalities of placing an advertisement in Fysikaktuelt to announce the election.

§5

A.O.B.

Leif and Vincent reported on the situation in Lund. Two referees have now been appointed and will travel to Lund at the end of August. A report will then be issued. The section reiterated its intent to follow developments closely.

§6

Next meeting.

The time of the next telephone meeting was fixed to Thursday 28th September, starting at 1000.
