Aurora FAQ

I have emacs problems when running screen/byobu or an interactive session

An interactive session is held by GNU screen that captures the escape sequences starting with CTRL thus stealing the emacs focus.

To circumvent this, here's a nice page:

How Aurora scheduling works

In this section I try to explain how your job requests are treated on the hep partition.

Users within the same project are as one single user.

Inside a project, say, HEP 2016/1-4, it doesn't matter who you are, if you're member of the project your requests will be processed FIFO: first in, first out. The first to submit will be the first to have their jobs processed.

How to access the Aurora Cluster

The Aurora cluster is part of the SNIC infrastructure and is managed by Lunarc. This means that to access it, a user needs to have a SNIC account and has to join a specific project.

Please read the section Storage before reading this section.

When moving data to the shared folders, please follow these common sense rules:

In general, running on Aurora follows the rules stated on Lunarc manual pages.
All jobs must be ran under the slurm batch system.

There's only few important things one needs to know:

Storage on Aurora

Storage in the Aurora cluster is organized as detailed by Lunarc. Read the following:
<http://lunarc-documentation.readthedocs.io/en/latest/quick_reference/#file-systems>

The home folders are maintained and backed up by Lunarc, and they are in a special storage machine dedicated to users.

2020-06: I am currently working on some kind of system to keep track of usage and do some minimalistic data management. More information will come.
