The J/ particle is a bound state of a charm and an anti-charm quark
(
). It is believed that the production of this resonance will be
suppressed in a QGP [11], where the
pair is
separated due to Debye screening of the color charges.
When the plasma hadronizes the separated quarks will likely combine
with other quarks to open charm rather than J/
.
Measurements of this type have to include the fact that a suppression is possible also due to absorption in a dense hadronic medium.
