Born in the Soviet Union, Omar Tetradze is from Georgian Greek family (Remember Jason and argonauts, looking for the Golden Fleece in Colchis? Colchis is a region in Georgia now.). He started playing in the Georgian top-flying team Dinamo of Tbilisi, but with the Soviet Union collapse and military actions in Georgia erupting, he was forced to move from his homeland. Valery Gazzayev, then coach of Dinamo Moscow, gave him a chance to play in the Russian Premier League. Tetradze proved that he is worthy player, being named the best Russian midfield three years in a row and assuring the place in the Russian National team. However, Dinamo failed to win any major competition, Gazzayev resigned, and Omar Tetradze left the team soon too. After a short spell with Moscow Spartak, Omar appeared in Vladikavkaz, were Valery Gazzayev was coaching Alaniya. There Tetradze shifted to the full-back position, were proved to be no less useful than in midfield. He was the key player in the team, when it reached top ranks of the Russian football, winning the Championship in 1995.
Omar Tetradze is fast, skillfull and intelligent player, covering usually the right wing. He is equally able to cancel any attack and to start an offencive action, linking the defence lines and the midfield. He has perfect vision of the field, and does not hesitate to go forward, though rarely leaves his zone uncontrolled. With his skills and experience, he is the best in his position in Russia and certainly an international level player.
