Particle PhysicsLund University FYS225/FKF050 course
This is an introductory course to elementary particle physics, with a special emphasis on experimental methods and latest discoveries. The course will give basic knowledge of concepts of particle physics, and current experiments at world's highest energy accelerators and in space will be presented.
Spring Term 2005: Introductory meeting on Monday, January 24,
at 15:15, in H422 (Fysikum)
Course homepage spring term 2003.
Textbook: Martin, B.R. & Shaw, G.: "Particle Physics" 2nd edition, John Wiley & Sons, 1997 (358 pages)
|Course plan: Three 2-hour lectures a week.
In each 2-hour lecture, one chapter of the book is
covered. In addition, there will be two lectures on astroparticle
physics. There will be a few weekly exercises which should be handed
over, and which give part of the total points. Exercises will be
explained in three problem-solution sessions. There will also be
a few presentations about current research in high-energy physics
(not included in the exam). LU students (FYS225) should in addition
do invidual project work on a selected topic. The project will
be presented orally (student seminar) (ca. 20 min each).
