Scanning

There are two options to scan at Particle Physics:

A. Using the department copy machine

This is the recommended way to scan as it should work most of the time. It also sends the scans directly to your email.

The copy machine is located near the reception. It requires a code to access the scanner service. Ask Florido or Bozena for the code.

You can print this page and bring it with you at the reception.

  1. Access the scanner service by pressing this button: [buttonimage]
  2. Insert your original document in the scanner tray. It can be the autoloader on top or the copy machine scanner surface.
  3. In the screen, add the destination email. You do not need to save a user if you press on …
  4. Start the scan with the key:
  5. Press send
  6. :!::!: VERY IMPORTANT :!::!: LOGOUT from the copy machine when you're done or the division will be billed for other people's scans/printouts. You can do this by pressing together the red and yellow buttons.

B. Using the division scanner

There are two options to scan with the division scanner:

B.1. With the division laptop

To print with the division laptop, you need an account on teddi. If you do not know what this means or you do not have such access, ask Florido.

  1. Turn on the scanner
  2. Turn on the laptop (could be in sleep mode)
  3. Login with your teddi username and password.
  4. Locate a program called “SimpleScan”. Usually is in the menu as in the picture: [pic]
  5. Place the original in the scanner making sure to align to the page format, then close the lid
  6. To scan a page, click on scan:
    1. If you have a long documents with many pages, simple scan will add the pages automatically every time you press the scan button
    2. Once you're done with all page, you can save the document. Default is png but if you change the file extension to .pdf SimpleScan will create a multipage pdf. The file will be saved in the path you decide, by default your home folder on teddi.
  7. To start to scan a new document, press the + icon [pic] and repeat the above steps.
  8. Once done :!: LOGOUT :!: from the laptop. One can logout by clicking on the following menu entry and dialog:
  9. Turn off the scanner
  10. Put the machine back to sleep

B.2. With your own computer

  1. If you're using:
    1. Linux: you must have the sane scanner libraries (they contain the scanner drivers) and SimpleScan to be able to scan.
      1. On ubuntu:
        sudo apt-get install saned simplescan
    2. Windows: you need to install the scanner drivers. Windows 10 might detect it automatically but if not, you can search for them here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-scanjet-4850-photo-scanner/447373.
      1. :!: NOTE :!: If you install the scanner drivers by yourself, you must FIRST install the drivers and THEN connect the scanner USB connector to your laptop.
  2. Disconnect the scanner USB connection from the division laptop pic, and connect it to your computer.
  3. Turn on the scanner.
  4. If on Linux, follow the steps B.1.4-B.1.7
